My family and I live in Minneapolis Minnesota. This is a blog about my fight with Cancer. I hope to share about my experience with treatment, my life with my beautiful family, and this crazy adventure called life. Oh, and we love doughnuts!

Thoughts On Friendship

Let me tell you a little bit about my friend Aaron the tattoo guy. We worked together at Treefort for a couple years, that was until he and his now wife Rae got back together. I still remember learning that he quit Treefort to move to Phoenix where Rae lived while I was on vacation shopping for board shorts. Now here is the kicker, he quit via email at 2:30 am. Yes, you read that right, he emailed his notice the day he left at 2:30 in the freaking morning! As he was already on his way! Best decision he has made.

So when I found out that he was shaving his beard to raise money, and then offering to shave his head and get tattoos I wasn't surprised at all. I mean, I was floored that he was doing it, but I wasn't surprised. Generosity and spontaneity are his jam. He is so generous that if people kept giving he would want to get more tattoos. When the first 5k came in I tried to give him an out and his response was, "well if they didn't want me to get a tattoo they should have given $4999."

Let it be known that I have told Aaron that he can't get any more tattoos on my behalf. Three tattoos is enough!

You may be asking, why in the world is he talking about Aaron when the title of this post is Thoughts On Friendship. Well the reason I am is that Aaron and I chat once or twice a month via Google Chat, and when I am randomly in Phoenix for work we hang out. It is sufficient to say the mode in which we maintain our friendship is quite odd. That being said, it totally works for us. And we have remained close enough that Aaron would shave his Christmas Beard (that is another post) and get tattoos on his body to help raise money for my family and I. Also, it should be said that the fact that Aaron would do something like this puts him on a different level of "humanhood." There are few that would do something like what we he did.

I am stealing this next part from my brother. As we get older how we do friendship changes. We have classic friendships like I have with my friend Josh (yes, my best friend's name is Josh), but we also have friendships like I have with Aaron, where we rarely see each other and mostly have conversations via instant messenger. And that is so rad, that we are able to maintain relationships like that, where we get tattoos to raise money for friends who we rarely see.

An Assignment - Send a note, or a gift to a friend. The distance in which you live from each other doesn't matter, but if you have an "Aaron" (or Erin) in your life send them that note or gift.

Ok, since we talked about Aaron and the tattoos I thought I should include pictures the tattoos.
